sister birthday

This weekend, my beautiful and amazingly talented little sister turned 20...the teenage years are over! To celebrate, we spent the day hanging out, eating lunch (and maybe just a little bit of ice-cream), and getting her a fabulous new haircut.

Isn't she beautiful? Oh, and we also discovered that we have almost the exact same sunglasses!

Happy birthday, my dear sister! I love you so much and I'm so glad I was able to celebrate your special day with you!

max's first birthday

On Saturday, Corban and I went to the birthday party for a one-year-old. It was Where the Wild Things Are themed and therefore incredibly cute. Also, there were babies, which do tend to be quite adorable themselves.

I was so overwhelmed with the cuteness of it all that after about an hour I thought I would explode if I did not hold a baby. My ovaries just couldn't take it any more. I think I may have given my poor husband a heart attack.

In that last picture, you will see the epitome of laziness. The gift we bought didn't fit into any of the pretty gift bags I had laying around. So, what did I do? I painted a paper bag from the liquor store and called it a day. That's right, I gave their child a booze bag. I am a class act.

Kenny's Radical Birthday Shindig!

Radical was the best adjective I could come up with. I'm not sure it does the trick.

So, my childhood friend Ken turned an abysmally old age this week (29) and I was thrilled and excited to be able to attend a birthday party at his house in good old Denison, TX. We hadn't seen each other for many moons, but we've been Facebook stalking each other, so it was the perfect time to become reacquainted. Plus, I got to meet his lovely wife Megan, who is a wonderful artist and soon to be my BFF. This party was the friggin' jam, you guys. It included:

-strangers
-tree lights
-spontaneous jam sessions including multiple ukuleles, a guitar, a violin, and a clarinet
-champaign
-box wine
-wrestling (no punching or groin kicks, however, butt tickling is perfectly legal)

Uh-mazing. I am green with envy of their house, too. I always forget how much I miss being in the county (being able to see the stars and walking around barefoot are two of my favorite things in the whole world.)

So, thank you, Ken (I know you'll be reading this ;) for inviting me to your birthday! I hope to be back very soon...get to work on that program of yours so you can hire me in a couple years!

Quarter Life Crisis

There are so many ways to think of birthdays- I know some people who celebrate their entire birthmonth and some who won't even admit to the day. I've been known, on occasion, to forget mine.

Not so this year.

This year I turned 25.

And I have nothing to show for it. For my quarter century of life, I have no real successes, no real career, nothing much to say for myself.

However, as I was reminded this weekend, what I do have is amazing people in my life who don't really care whether or not I have success, career, or property.

I have a best friend who will have Joint Birthday S'mores and Cocktails with me.

I have a wonderful group of friends who will take me to see a very un-funny Rob Schneider and make up for it with drinks after.

And I have a beautiful fakefamily and an amazing husband who will throw me a surprise party at the best little coffee shop/wine bar in the world.

So, I guess I'm doing pretty damn good for 25. :)

This is the first birthday has actually freaked me out. Think about it- 24 is just a year away from 25, which is practically 30, which might as well be 40, which means that I am basically about two steps away from being a decrepit old lady. Ack!!

Then again, I might be acting a little over dramatic. :)
